Flagship reference: Khawaja Harris continues JIT head’s cross-examination
RAWALPINDI (DNA) – Ex-prime minister Nawaz Sharif on Monday has appeared before accountability court in Rawalpindi for the hearing of Flagship Investments reference.
During the hearing headed by Justice Arshad Malik, former PM’s counsel Khawaja Harris continued cross-examination of Joint Investigation Team (JIT) head Wajid Zia.
Previously, Zia told that JIT had not found a single bank account of Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) supremo Nawaz Sharif through which money was transferred abroad for establishment of Flagship.
Harris asked Zia whether Nawaz had made investment in Flagship Investments company. He also inquired whether there is any document present which proves investment was made by Nawaz Sharif.
To this Zia replied, “JIT had not found any such document or bank account.”
“Also, no witness had given testimony that Nawaz Sharif had helped him/her in formation of the Flasgship”, Wajid was quoted as saying.
It is worth mentioning here that the cases against Nawaz family stemmed from the Panama Papers leak that disclosed expensive and undeclared property allegedly owned by them in London.
Former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, Maryam Nawaz and Captain Safdar were convicted and sentenced to prison for ten years, seven years and one year respectively in Avenfield verdict.
However, the convictions were suspended by Islamabad High Court and they were released from Adiala jail till final decision.
