ATC adjourns hearing of Naqeebullah case after Rao Anwar fails to appear
KARACHI, MAY 02 (DNA) – An anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Karachi on Wednesday adjourned the hearing of Naqeebullah murder case till May 14 after the jail authorities presented former Malir SSP Rao Anwar’s medical certificate in the court.
During the hearing, 11 suspects including DSP Qamar Ahmed were produced before the court however Anwar failed to appear.
While presenting his medical certificate, the jail authorities told the judge that Rao Anwar has fallen ill therefore; he cannot be produced in the ATC.
Anwar is currently kept in sub-jail Malir Cantt instead of a prison however; the certificate was presented by central jail’s medical officer which says that the accused is suffering from sugar, loose motion and fever.
The court while adjourning the hearing expressed resentment over not presenting the challan against the suspects and directed police to submit it today.
After the hearing, Naqeebullah’s lawyer said that bringing Rao Anwar in protocol do not fulfill the requirements of justice.
He maintained that Rao Anwar’s non-appearance in court was based on an unusual report.
