PM Abbasi meets CJP Nisar in a surprise visit to Supreme Court
ISLAMABAD, MAR 27 (DNA) – In a rare move, Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi arrived at the Supreme Court in Islamabad to have a one-on-one meeting with Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar on Tuesday.
The agenda of meeting is not known yet and according to a SC spokesperson a press release will be issued after the meeting.
However, a senior law officer told that agenda of meeting is to discuss the legal reforms in the country.
According to sources, the meeting had not been scheduled before 5pm.
The chief justice himself welcomed PM Abbasi at the gate after the latter reportedly arrived at the court premises without his usual protocol.
Earlier, former Senate chairman Mian Raza Rabbani also met with the chief justice at the SC premises to discuss the same issue.
The meeting came a day after the apex court dismissed a contempt petition against former prime minister Nawaz Sharif regarding noncompliance of court’s orders in the out of turn promotion case.
During the hearing, the chief justice asked about the charges being framed against the accused. “What do we have in the case against Nawaz Sharif? Did he issue out of turn promotions?,” he questioned.
“Mian sahib is no one now, so what actions can be taken [against him],” he was quoted as saying.
