LAHORE, AUG 24 (DNA) – Opposition parties, including Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), Awami National Party (ANP), Awami Muslim League (AML), Jamiat Ulema-e Islam-F (JUI-F) and Jamaat-e-Islami (JI), have refused to amend articles 62 and 63 of the Constitution.

Federal government had earlier announced it will introduce bill for constitutional amendment in Article 62 and Article 63. Law Minister Zahid Hamid said that duration of disqualification has not been mentioned in Article 62, adding that they will believe it should be less than five years. He announced to take the constitutional amendment in the committee for further discussion.

Senator Ilyas Ahmed Bilour stated that his party ANP will not support the amendment in Constitution only to save one person. Opposition Leader and senior PPP member Khurshid Shah agreed to the idea that PML-N government was trying to save sacked premier Nawaz Sharif, adding that he doubts the intentions.

Opposition parties have announced to condemn the one-sided actions of government. PPP and ANP, who were known for their stance against articles 62 and 63, have both refused to side with PML-N in their cause. In the current political situation, PML-N stands almost alone on the issue.
