ISLAMABAD, Aug 8: /DNA/ – The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) on Saturday warned of rising water flows in major rivers and the risk of low to moderate-level flooding across several parts of the country on August 8-9, as its National Emergencies Operation Centre (NEOC) reviewed river flows, reservoir levels and emerging monsoon risks and directed local administrations to pre-position resources and keep evacuation arrangements ready in vulnerable areas.

According to the NEOC assessment, low-level flooding is currently being observed in the Indus River at Kalabagh, Chashma, Taunsa and Guddu. Flows in the Ravi, Chenab, Jhelum, Kabul and Sutlej rivers, as well as hill torrents in Dera Ghazi Khan and Rajanpur and Nullah Lai, remain normal.

The NDMA said water flows in major rivers are expected to increase on August 8 and 9. Low-level flows are likely at Kalabagh, Chashma, Taunsa, Guddu and Sukkur on the Indus, Marala on the Chenab and Balloki on the Ravi.

Low-level flows are also expected in the Jhelum and downstream areas of Mangla Dam, adjoining rivers and at Adezai on the Kabul River.

The authority warned of low to moderate-level flooding in streams and nullahs in Chitral, Upper Dir, Abbottabad, Shangla, Khyber, Orakzai, Kohat, Tank and North and South Waziristan in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

In Azad Kashmir, Bagh and Kotli face the risk of sudden low to moderate-level flooding, while similar risks have been identified in Zhob, Musakhel, Kohlu, Barkhan and Dera Bugti in Balochistan.

In Punjab, hill torrents in Dera Ghazi Khan and Rajanpur could experience low to moderate flooding. Urban flooding is also possible in Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Narowal, Faisalabad, Okara and Lahore.
