Breakthrough likely in US-Iran standoff as Pakistan steps up diplomatic efforts

ISLAMABAD – In a significant diplomatic development, Pakistan appears to have brokered a potential breakthrough in the long-standing stalemate between the United States and Iran. According to high-level sources, Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi held a crucial meeting with Iranian leadership on Wednesday, including a meeting with the Iranian President, raising hopes for a de-escalation in regional tensions.
Sources close to the matter reveal that an agreement is currently being finalized between the relevant parties. The talks, facilitated by Pakistani officials, are said to have focused on confidence-building measures and a possible roadmap to reduce hostilities that have threatened stability in the Middle East and beyond.
“The discussions were positive and forward-looking,” a source familiar with the negotiations told this correspondent. “Both sides have shown flexibility, and the outlines of an understanding are taking shape.”
Following the Wednesday meeting, another round of talks between US and Iranian representatives is reportedly likely to take place in Islamabad after the Eid holidays. The choice of Pakistan’s capital as a potential venue underscores the growing trust in Islamabad’s mediatory role.
In a further sign of momentum, a high-level Pakistani visit to Iran is scheduled for Thursday. Officials believe this visit could pave the way for formalizing the understanding, with speculation that a formal announcement—or “annulment” (likely referring to the termination of certain sanctions or hostile measures)—may be made soon thereafter.
While no official confirmation has come from the White House or the Iranian Foreign Ministry, diplomatic circles in Islamabad are optimistic. If successful, the breakthrough would mark a major foreign policy achievement for Pakistan, positioning it as a key peace broker in one of the world’s most volatile regions.
Analysts caution that details remain fluid, but all signs point toward a rare diplomatic opening. The coming days, particularly after Eid, are expected to be critical in determining whether this initiative translates into a lasting agreement.
