Ayaz Sadiq appointed as new law minister
ISLAMABAD, OCT 31 (DNA) — Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has appointed Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz senior leader Sardar Ayaz Sadiq as the new Federal Minister for Law and Justice.
According to a notification issued by the cabinet division on Monday, Sardar Ayaz Sadiq has been given the portfolio of Law and Justice in addition to his duties as minister for economic affairs.
Earlier, Senator Azam Nazeer Tarar resigned from his position as law minister due to “personal reasons” on October 23. It is pertinent that Azam Nazeer Tarar resigned following criticism by the lawyers’ community as well as federal government circles for two of his choices.
Tarar had supported Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial’s nominations of junior judges for elevation to the Supreme Court on the federal government’s instructions. In another incident, Tarar was the Chief Guest at the Asma Jahangir conference when anti-Army slogans were chanted.
He and other guests remained silent on this rhetoric. However, a lawyer close to Tarar revealed that he was not comfortable with the government’s decision, and therefore, decided to tender his resignation. =DNA
