Nawaz Sharif reaches Punjab House after short appearance in accountability court

ISLAMABAD, SEPT 26 (DNA) – Ex-prime minister (PM) Nawaz Sharif on Tuesday has reached Punjab House after short appearance in accountability court over National Accountability Bureau (NAB) references pertaining to London flats and Azizia Steel Mills against the Sharif family.

During the proceeding, Sharif’s lawyer Khawaja Harris submitted three advocacy certificates while the court has directed the former premier to ensure his appearance in next hearing for indictment.

Talking to media, Asif Kirmani said that I was tasked to bring Nawaz Sharif to the court and today, I fulfilled my duty, he added.

On the occasion, strict security arrangements were ensured by deploying police personnel inside and outside the court. Irrelevant people were also barred from entering the judicial complex.

On Monday, the ousted PM had arrived in Islamabad from UK after a month visit for his wife Kulsoom Nawaz’s operation, who is under-treatment for cancer. Maryam Nawaz and Captain Safdar are also expected to return soon while Hassan and Hussain Nawaz will stay in London.

Earlier, accountability court had summoned Nawaz Sharif and his sons Hassan and Hussain Nawaz on September 19 in Flagship Investments reference but they didn’t appear.

On April 20, Justice Asif Saeed Khosa had announced Panama Leaks case decision comprising of 540 pages, saying that the court issued a split ruling calling for a JIT. Two of the five judges went further, branding Sharif “dishonest” and saying he should be disqualified, but they were outnumbered.

The court formed a six-member inquiry team that included Federal Investigation Agency’s (FIA) Additional Director General Wajid Zia, Military Intelligence’s Brig Kamran Khurshid, National Accountability Bureau’s (NAB) Director Irfan Naeem Mangi, State Bank of Pakistan’s Amer Aziz, Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan’s (SECP) Executive Director Bilal Rasool and Inter-Services Intelligence’s Brig Muhammad Nauman Saeed.
