Indus Water Treaty: Pakistan, India to resume talks today

ISLAMABAD, MAR 20, (DNA) -The two-day meeting between Indus Water commissioners of Pakistan and India will begin in Islamabad today.

The Pakistan delegation will be headed by Mirza Asif Saeed while P.K. Saxena will lead the Indian team during the two-day talks.Pakistan has listed three Indian hydro projects in their agenda for discussion, contending these violate the Indus Water Treaty.

Pakistan is set to raise issues related to three dams — 1000 MW Pakuldul on Chenab, 120 MW Miyar, located across Miyar Nalla which is a right bank main tributary of River Chenab and the 43 MW Lower Kalnai hydro project— on Lower Kalnai Nalla, a tributary of river Chenab.

This will be the 113th session of the Permanent Indus Waters Commission which was established in 1960. The last meeting of the commission was held in 2015.
