Pakistan elected as member of IAEA BoGs
VIENNA, (DNA) – Pakistan has once again been elected as member of Board of Governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency for the next two years.
The election was held in a meeting of the agency in Austrian city of Vienna.
A Pakistani delegation led by Chairman Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission Muhammad Naeem is also in attendance.
It is a big diplomatic achievement of Pakistan and also recognition of the country’s status as a responsible nuclear power state.
Out of thirty five members, eleven are elected for a term of two years.
The International Atomic Energy Agency is an international organization that seeks to promote the peaceful use of nuclear energy, and inhibit its use for any military purpose, including nuclear weapons.
With its headquarters in Vienna, the IAEA reports to both the United Nations General Assembly and Security Council.
