Candidate contesting on NA, PA seats commits suicide in Faisalabad

FAISALABAD: (DNA) – The Election Commission of Pakistan has postponed polling in NA-103 and PP-103 Faisalabad after an independent candidate contesting on the seat committed suicide.
Mirza Mohammad Mughal shot himself in the head and he died on the spot. The motive behind the killing is not yet known.
Under the ECP laws, the election in a constituency stands postponed in case of any candidate’s death.
Thirteen candidates are contesting from NA-103 (Faisalabad-3), while 16 are in the run for PA-103.
On July 18, the ECP halted electoral process on four provincial assembly seats after death of two of the contesting candidates. The ECP said the schedule of by-election of the four seats would be announced later.
The constituencies in which elections have been postponed are: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) PK-78, Balochistan’s constituency of PB-35, Punjab Assembly PP-87 and Sindh Assembly PS-87.
ECP Secretary Babar Fateh last week said that the authorities concerned had been asked to provide security to political leaders and candidates during their campaigns, including corner meetings.
