Student crushed under wheels of bus in Rawalpindi

RAWALPINDI, FEB 21 (DNA) – A local bus on Wednesday ran over a student when he was trying to get on it, injuring him critically here in Gujar Khan area.
According to eyewitness accounts, the student was trying to get on the bus when the driver didn’t stop and the bus ran over him.
The boy, whose identity couldn’t be ascertained, succumbed to his injuries during treatment later.
The driver fled from the site of the incident soon after the accident.
The incident infuriated the bystanders and schoolmates of the victim, who pelted stones and smashed windscreen of the bus, besides blocking Lahore-Islamabad GT Road for vehicular movemen.
Reckless and underage driving have been among the two prime causes for higher number of fatal traffic mishaps in the country. Despite the government’s tall claims of taking preventive measures to curb such incidents, the rising tally of traffic accidents continuing to haunt the country.
In one such incident, a minor girl was killed in Karachi and her father was severally injured when a speeding bus crushed their motorcycle last year.
