Sri Lanka holds mass wedding ceremony for 100 Chinese couples

COLOMBO, DEC 17 (DNA) – Sri Lanka hosted a grand wedding ceremony in capital Colombo on Sunday for 100 Chinese couples with President Maithripala Sirisena and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe gracing the event.
The ceremony held at the Colombo Municipal grounds was named by the Government of Sri Lanka as a “Royal Wedding Ceremony”.
Some of the couples were dressed in traditional Kandyan wedding attire while some others were wearing the traditional Chinese wedding attire and some were in western wedding gowns and suits.
Sri Lankan drummers and dancers received the Chinese couples arrived in decorative cars and the couples tied the knots in traditional Sri Lankan wedding customs.
The event was organized by the Ministry of Megapolis and Western Development, the Ministry of Tourism and the Chinese government was held to mark the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries and to promote the island nation as a tourist destination.
Minister of Megapolis and Western Development Patali Champika Ranawaka said event aims to promote the tourism industry in Sri Lanka and to strengthen the historic relationship between China and Sri Lanka.
The couples were given an all-expense paid stay in Sri Lanka following the wedding ceremony so they can experience what Sri Lanka offers tourists.=DNA
