US general asks Pakistan to dismantle terror safe havens

KABUL (DNA) – General John Nicholson, who commands US and NATO forces in Afghanistan, one again repeated the ‘do more’ mantra and called on Pakistan to take action against all terrorist groups operating on its soil.
According to Afghan media, General Nicholson while addressing the media in Kabul on Tuesday said that he had not seen a change in Pakistan’s support for militants so far, despite President Donald Trump taking a tougher line against Islamabad.
“We have been very direct and very clear with the Pakistanis… we have not seen those changes implemented yet,” General John Nicholson told reporters.
While acknowledging that Pakistanis have “been engaged in a very tough fight against extremism inside their own country,” Nicholson said he had not seen any significant changes from Islamabad.
Members of the Taliban-affiliated Haqqani network still hide out on the Pakistan side of the Durand Line separating it from Afghanistan, he added.
“The expectations are out there. We have not seen those changes implemented yet and we are hoping … to work together with the Pakistanis going forward to eliminate terrorists who are crossing the Durand Line,” Nicholson said.
