ISLAMABAD, (DNA) – Pakistan summoned the Afghan Charge d’Affaires on Tuesday to lodge a strong protest with the Ashraf Ghani government over a cross-border terrorist attack that martyred two military servicemen on Monday.

Islamabad urged Kabul to take immediate action against terrorists and militant groups finding sanctuaries in the war-torn country to target Pakistani security forces, said a statement issued by the Foreign Office.

Captain Junaid Hafeez and Sepoy Raham embraced martyrdom while four soldiers were injured during yesterday’s exchange of fire with the terrorists using Afghan soil, the army’s media wing, Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), had said in a statement, adding that Pakistan troops effectively responded to the cross-border attack, killing eight to 10 terrorists, while many were seen running back injured.

During today’s meeting at the foreign office in Islamabad, a message of strengthening the border management was conveyed to the Afghan government as it was critical to preventing such cross-border attacks.

Pakistan has been witnessing an uptick in terrorist attacks on its security forces deployed along the Pak-Afghan border, who are engaged in strengthening border management.

“These attacks confirm the presence of a large number of terrorists in the increasingly ungoverned spaces in Afghanistan. The forces supporting these acts of terrorism against Pakistan, who have been allowed to use the Afghan soil, are a serious threat to peace and stability in Afghanistan, and the region,” the communique added.
