Ishaq Dar shows up at accountability court to face NAB case

ISLAMABAD, SEPT 25 (DNA) – Finance Minister Ishaq Dar on Monday showed up in an accountability court to face a graft case filed against him by National Accountability Bureau (NAB) for allegedly accumulating wealth beyond his known sources of income.
Judge Mohammad Bashir ordered provision of a copy of the NAB reference to the minister’s counsel and adjourned the hearing until Sept 27 when he is expected to be indicted in the case.
The court turned down his counsel’s request to adjourn the hearing for a week.
During previous hearing, the court had issued bailable warrants for the arrest of the minister after he failed to turn up before it. In compliance with the court orders, a NAB team had visited his residence in the capital to execute his arrest warrants, but his staff received summons since he was abroad.
The NAB has seized his bank accounts and properties. It has also asked district governments to stop any transfer or disposal of the properties owned by him.
On Sept 8, the national anti-graft watchdog had filed a reference against Dar on the basis of an investigation report prepared by a Joint Investigation Team (JIT) for owning assets beyond his known sources of income.
On Sept 19, the court had re-issued summons for Nawaz Sharif and his family members after none of them, including Hussain Nawaz, Hassan Nawaz, Maryam Nawaz and her husband retired Captain Safdar, had shown up in court.
