LHC accepts contempt of court petition against Nawaz Sharif for hearing

LAHORE, AUG 18 (DNA) – Lahore High Court (LHC) accepted contempt of court petition against former premier Nawaz Sharif, declaring it maintainable.
The petitioner claimed that ex-PM had criticised Supreme Court and senior judiciary in his addresses after the top court ruled his disqualification verdict in Panama case. Deputy attorney general appeared in court on behalf of the federal government.
The government’s lawyer rejected petitioner’s allegations and said that violation of Supreme Court verdict cannot be challenged in LHC. He suggested that the petitioner should file his plea in the apex court from where the decision was ruled.
However, the court ruled in favour of the petitioner and declared the contempt of court plea as maintable. LHC will hear the petition in the days to come.
