ISLAMABAD, MAR 17, (DNA) – Facebook administration has agreed to send a delegation to help the government deal with blasphemous content on the social media, a spokesman for the Ministry of Interior said.

According to Radio Pakistan, the spokesman said that the Facebook administration has nominated a focal person for maintaining constant contact with the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA).

The spokesman further said the government has received a written reply from Facebook stating that they are fully aware of Pakistan’s concerns over blasphemous content and they are ready to solve the matter with consultation and dialogue.

After the Islamabad High Court last week threatened to block social media networks if they failed to censor content considered insulting to Islam, the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) said it has asked Facebook to block blasphemous content. It added that the agency is also in talks with Interpol to identify “blasphemous” content.

On Thursday, Interior Minister Nisar Ali Khan urged Facebook to comply.

Khan said that Prophet Muhammad’s (PBUH) honour was a matter of faith as he assured full investigation and punishments would be given to people involved in blasphemy on social media.

Pakistan previously banned Facebook for hosting allegedly blasphemous content for two weeks in 2010. As well, YouTube was unavailable from 2012 to 2016.=DNA
