Sports must be patronized: VC PU

Talent hunt at PU

LAHORE, 25 SEP, (DNA) – Punjab University (PU) Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Mujahid Kamran has said that sports must be patronized to promote sports activities in the country and polish raw talent.

He was addressing the concluding ceremony of cricket trials of candidates willing to take admissions in Punjab University on sports basis at PU New Campus ground here on Sunday.

National Test Cricket Team Captain Misbah ul Haq, cricketer Kamran Akmal, Principal Prof Dr Shahid Kamal, Director Sports Shamsa Hashmi, Additional Director Sports Khalid Mahmood, RO-1 Prof Dr Sajid Rashid, RO-2 Malik Muhammad Zaheer, renowned analyst Chaudhry Muhammad Akram and a large number of players were present on the occasion.

Addressing the ceremony, Dr Mujahid Kamran said that all resources must be allocated to organize sports competitions at school, college and district level. He said that financial assistance should also be provided to outshining players to encourage them.

Talking to media, Misbah ul Haq said that sports must be promoted at grassroots level and inter-university level competitions must be held to find new talent.

He said that basic infrastructure and facilities must be provided to the players at lower levels. He said that the credit of Pakistan Cricket Team’s recent win against West Indies went to the players who have performed well in the matches. He said that although 2/3 good players were missing in the team of West Indies but still it was a difficult task to defeat the world champion. He said that West Indies could give tough time to Pakistan in upcoming matches.

Later, PU VC Dr Mujahid Kamran presented souvenir to Misbahul Haq. As many as 650 candidates participated in the two-day cricket trials for admission on sports basis in Punjab University. =DNA
