30-year-old woman gang raped in Peshawar

PESHAWAR: A 30-year-old woman was allegedly gang raped by four men on Wednesday night in the city’s Chughalpura area.
According to the First Information Report (FIR) registered on Thursday, the woman – who hails from Battagram – was on her way home after visiting family in the Chughalpura area when four men forcibly took her to a house and raped her. She was released three hours later at around 2am.
The main accused in relation to the case was arrested in a raid on Friday, police officials confirmed.
“Four persons were nominated in the FIR by the victim, and police are hunting the other three accused,” said Paharipura Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Waseem Riaz Khan.
ASP Riaz said that a medical examination is underway and the case will be progress accordingly.
The Human Rights Commission of Pakistan found that in 2015, 939 women were victims of sexual violence, 279 were victims of domestic violence and 143 women were victims of acid attacks. At least 833 women were kidnapped and 777 committed or attempted to commit suicide.
A total of 1,096 women, 88 men and 170 minors were victims of honour crimes over the past year.
Between January and May 2015, nine were executed for rape.
