Pakistan’s participation in the 113th Session of Executive Council of the OPCW

THE HAGUE, OCT 9 /DNA/ – The 113th Session of the Executive Council (EC) of the Organization for Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) was held in The Hague from 06-09 October 2026. Pakistan’s delegation at the session was led by H.E Syed Haider Shah, the Permanent Representative of Pakistan to the OPCW.

In his statement, Ambassador Shah invited the Council’s attention to the threats being faced by multilateralism, and emphasized that Pakistan was playing its role to give way to diplomacy and dialogue to secure peace and defuse conflicts. He reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to the Chemical Weapons Convention, and apprised the council about the important events organized by Pakistan.

Ambassador Shah thanked the Government of China and Japan for organizing the visit of the EC’s delegation to the Abandoned Chemical Weapons (ACWs) sites in China in September 2026. He also urged the need for the OPCW to hold discussions on the emerging technologies.

Ambassador Shah welcomed the re-instatement of the rights and privileges of the Syrian Arab Republic at the OPCW. He also drew the Council’s attention towards the need for a consensus-based decision-making, for effectively achieving the purposes and objectives of the CWC.
Pakistan is an active member of the 41 member Hague based OPCW’s Executive Council, and continues to play an active role for full, effective and non-discriminatory implementation of the Chemical Weapons convention.
