MOSCOW, SEP 29 /DNA/ – Ambassador Faisal Niaz Tirmizi highlighted Pakistan’s commitment to strengthening ties with Russia and advancing regional economic cooperation during the MGIMO International Business Trends Forum 2026, held in Moscow.

Speaking at the forum, Ambassador Tirmizi said Pakistan–Russia relations continue to move forward with positive momentum, noting that high-level engagement between the two countries is steadily growing. He pointed to the forthcoming visit of the Russian Interior Minister to Pakistan in October as a reflection of deepening bilateral engagement.

The Ambassador observed that new patterns of global trade are evolving alongside emerging global power structures, stressing that changing global dynamics require stronger partnerships and greater regional connectivity.

“Visa facilitation, direct air connectivity and efficient logistics are key to expanding Pakistan–Russia economic ties,” he stated.

Highlighting the role of regional platforms, Ambassador Tirmizi said the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), D-8, SAARC and ECO can play an important role in promoting regional economic cooperation and connectivity. He urged that these platforms be effectively utilized to facilitate trade and strengthen transport and logistics linkages.

Describing Pakistan as a natural connector between Central Asia, South Asia and the Middle East, the Ambassador said the country’s geographical location offers important land and maritime routes for regional trade and connectivity.

On Pakistan’s demographic profile, he noted that around 68 percent of the population is under the age of 30, describing the young population as both a major strength and an important responsibility. He also emphasized that bringing business and science closer together is essential for innovation and sustainable economic growth.

On the sidelines of the Forum, Ambassador Tirmizi interacted with fellow Ambassadors, Russian business and academic representatives, and MGIMO students.

“Pakistan remains committed to strengthening its partnership with Russia and advancing regional economic cooperation, connectivity and people-to-people ties,” he affirmed.
