Digital literacy

The impact of digital media cannot be stressed enough. The corporate sector has been using social media to connect with current and prospective customers. The freelancing industry is relying on social and digital media to connect with customers and to offer their skills. Gone are the days when websites were the focal elements for an individual or a corporation to connect with the world.
During the last two decades if the Internet has evolved into a tool we remain connected to at all times, then social media, too, has become an integral part of our lives. Just imagine the last time when you specifically switched on your television to watch the news. We receive news on the go on our social media profiles. If that is not enough then we receive exclusive video footage of incidents and events on our Whatsapp.
Digital literacy, therefore, should be a course in business management schools. It should be a compulsory course irrespective of the bachelor’s or master’s degree program one pursues. The students should know the basics of how to manage digital and social media. The knowledge they acquire will help them handle the digital media of the organization where they are working or will work.
Digital literary will facilitate the students to learn how best to manage digital media at the personal and professional levels as well. Journalism and news production are now using digital media more than often. Some journalists have established their YouTube channels where they share information that they may share when working for a television channel. Digital media is here to stay.
We are living more in the digital world than in the real world. We communicate through messenger and Whatsapp, watch movies on Netflix, and order items through Instagram and Facebook. In the years to come digital media will become more integral now that Metaverse has become a reality. However, one should often disconnect from the digital world and experience the real, natural world that we have been ignoring.
