President FPCCI seeks waiver of Employer’s contribution on EOBI and Social Security during Covid-19 lockdown period
ISLAMABAD, MAY 18 – Mian Anjum Nisar, President FPCCI urged the federal and provincial governments to waive employer’s contribution in EOBI and Social Security respectively on account of their employees. He said that during lockdown period from April to June 2020 the industries and trade offices have been continuously paying wages / salaries to their idle employees while the industrial manufacturing activities were completely off and production was at zero level. The industrial sector saved their employees from any financial crisis despite the fact of no productivity.
President FPCCI drew the attention of the government towards unjustified payments of 5% EOBI charges and 7% Social Security Charges against their workers during the Covid-19 lockdown period and said that in such situation additional payment being employer’s contribution on account of EOBI and Social Security has become a burden.
Anjum Nisar further said that the private sector hails the measures of the State Bank of Pakistan to financially support the industrial Sector enabling them to pay wages and salaries of their employees during lockdown period. However, the government should realize that in such situation where industrial sector is suffering heavy financial losses and also making payment of wages of the idle employees, all mandatory financial contributions on the part of industrialists/employers is not justified and should be waived for the period of Corona lockdown.
