The public has expressed serious reservations over the decision to increase the fare and demanded the notification be withdrawn.
Punjab govt increases fare of metro bus
LAHORE (DNA) – Punjab government on Tuesday increased the fare of metro bus from Rs20 to Rs30 which was approved by the provincial cabinet wing, issuing a notification to inform the transport department.
After the hike in fares, the subsidy of the metro bus will decrease by about one and a half billion annually. The Punjab government had provided subsidy of Rs9 billion annually on the metro bus till last year.
It is pertinent here that about 130,000 people travel through the Lahore metro bus on regular basis which has a majority of students and working class on the second number who prefer bus services.
The government earlier approved the hike of fares thrice which was later withdrawn but provincial cabinet wing S&GAD issued a notification to the transport department with new fares.
Department of Transport officials expressed the summary was sent for approval to the cabinet, which has been approved successfully.
