Turkey welcomes consultations at UNSC over Occupied Kashmir

ANKARA (DNA) – Turkey on Saturday said it welcomes the consultations held at the UN Security Council on Indian held Kashmir on Friday under the title “India-Pakistan”, with a view to de-escalating tension in the region and upholding diplomacy.

Turkish Foreign Office in a statement said Turkey believes that the UN should play a more active role in resolving the issue within the framework of the resolutions it adopted earlier.

We reaffirm our hope that the issue will be resolved on the basis of international law and through dialogue between the relevant parties, and we call upon the parties to exercise restraint and to refrain from unilateral steps which may increase tension, the statement concluded.

Earlier, Prime Minister Imran Khan stated that the recent meeting of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) on Jammu and Kashmir dispute has reaffirmed the earlier resolutions on the matter.

The premier took to Twitter and stated: “It is the responsibility of the international body to address the plight of Kashmiris.”

“I welcome the Security Council s meeting on Jammu and Kashmir […] it is the first time in five decades that the Kashmir dispute is being discussed at the highest diplomatic forum.”
