FBR authorised to confiscate benami properties in Karachi
KARACHI, JULY 03 (DNA) – The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has been authorised to confiscate benami properties in Karachi.
The Commissioner Inland Revenue (IR) Shakeel Ahmed has granted approval to provisionally attach Benami Properties under sub-section (3) of section 22 of the Act for Prohibition for Holding Properties in Benami (Act No. V of 2017), for a period of ninety days.
The document shows that Plaza Enterprises Pvt Ltd has been named Benamidar of Plot number 18/2, Civil Lines Karachi while Plot number 126-E-I, Civil Lines Karachi is owned by Marshall Homes & Builders Pvt Ltd.
Plot number 122, Block 05 Clifton, Karachi has been registered on Nadeem Ahmed Khan’s name and Sky Pak Holding Pvt Ltd posseses 22,644,335 numbers of shares of Thatta Cement Company Ltd.
Moreover, 22,644,335 numbers of shares of Thatta Cement Company Ltd are owned by Al Miftah Holding Pvt Ltd whereas Rising Star Holding Pvt Ltd has 7,000,053 numbers of shares of Thatta Cement Company Ltd.
Seracom Stock & Capital Pvt Ltd and Parkview Stock & Capital Pvt Ltd are benamidars with 30 million each preference shares of Summit Bank Ltd.
Earlier, Special Assistant for Prime Minister on Information and Broadcasting Dr Firodus Ashiq Awan had said that Tax Commissioner Benami Zone, Karachi has attached Benami properties and assets of a well known political family of Sindh under the law of the Benami law, which was a glimpse of the Naya Pakistan.
In a tweet, she said that now nothing would remain Benami as for the first time, the law was being implemented which would end the era of black money once for all.
She said that chairman and members of Federal Bureau of Revenue Adjudiating Authority on Benami Transactions have been appointed. = DNA
